Gordon Pine is the programmer/horseplayer who for years prepared the highly regarded annual "Gordon Pine's Par Times." FIGLINE is a mini-application created at the request of handicappers who wanted a simple program that would allow them to put in their own figures, press a button, and produce an accurate odds line. That's exactly what FIGLINE does.

FIGLINE will accept pretty much any type of figure: speed figures, pace times, class ratings, etc. It can be configured to treat either higher numbers or lower numbers as best, which is a useful option if you're a "Sheets" player.

Tech info: FIGLINE uses a random number generator function, as suggested by handicapper Brian Leonhart. It internally runs 10,000 simulations using the figures you input for each horse. It then calculates how often each horse "wins," given the figure you assigned to it. It assumes there is a normal distribution around each horse's figure and estimates each horse's chances of winning given its figs. It then assigns fair odds and "bet odds" for each horse.
