As of February 2008, there are 9 polysurfaces now in use in North America that include Santa Anita, Del Mar, Hollywood Park, Golden Gates, Woodbine, Arlington Park, Keeneland, Turfway Park and Presque Isle. Chances are that you currently wager at one or more of these ovals, and everyday you are faced with a "gazillion" questions about how to handicap the new polysurfaces. What do you do with horses that last ran over the turf? What do you do with horses that last ran over "real" dirt? Are post positions still important and what specific post positions win at each distance? What should I know about "track-specific" poly-breeding? What trainers excel on polysurfaces, and at what class levels, and with what age groups? What jockeys do they use? What trainers fail to perform to their old dirt levels over the new polysurfaces? What jockeys fail to perform to their old dirt levels? What trainers win while dropping in class over polysurfaces and with what age groups? What trainers win with first time starters over the polysurfaces? How important are running profiles on polysurfaces? Does speed hold on the polysurfaces as it did over "real" dirt? Do closers win? Can you see daily running biases? How's the rail? How important is "physicality" and pre-race warm-ups and post race gallop-outs over the polystrips? What about out of town shippers? What track do they ship in from? How does each "ship-in trainer" do going from dirt to poly, or poly to poly, or turf to poly? Is there an advantage to having a morning workout or prior race over a polysurface before actually winning over it? How do 3 year olds fare against older over the polysurface from Maiden Claimers to Graded runners? That's a lot of questions to answer before you put your money down! At the DAILY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA HORSE TO WATCH, we were more or less forced to answer all the above questions and many more for our clientele because our major Southern California circuit consisting of Santa Anita, Del Mar and Hollywood Park are now all polysurfaces. Hollywood Park has completed 3 meets, Del Mar 1 meet and Santa Anita is currently running their 2nd winter/spring 2008 polymeet. When Hollywood Park opened for racing in November 2006, nobody knew what to expect. The Southern California paddock "sages" had a myriad of factors that they thought essential. All of them have been mentioned above and we at the DAILY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA HORSES TO WATCH began tracking same with the first polyrace at Hollywood Park in November 2006 and continue to do so to the present day. This new 226 page treatise covers 205 days of polyracing over 3 different Southern California polysurfaces and 1535 polywinners (includes dead heats). This new writing is not a vote for or against polysurfaces. Its opinions are not about the what trainers, jockeys, owners, or racetrack "suits" think about polysurfaces, but rather one about handicapping the new synthetic surfaces no matter what is thrown at you. In this new writing, you'll note that we never encourage or suggest this or that type of personal handicapping methodology to you from cover to cover when playing polysurfaces. All contained in this writing will apply to every method of play. It matters little if you are a speed or pace zealot, a trainer/jockey advocate, a track bias enthusiast, a student of track-specific breeding, an astute angle player, a convinced class player, a physicality paddock observer, or any combination of same. Replicating any part of this report for any polystrip has to add to your bottom line by year's end. We'll show you what we do every racing day at the DAILY SCHTW for our clientele in our DAILY SCHTW WEEKLY POLYTRACK REPORT. We publish this weekly polyreport every Monday or Tuesday for all 3 of our Southern California polysurfaces. If you can replicate every one of these essential factors or most of them for the polysurfaces over which you wager, you will be "light years" ahead of your competition. Cost is $39.95
